K2 2003 Developer Course (3 Days)
Course Overview
The training course will teach attendees how to Install and Configure the K2
blackpearl workflow product suite in a multi-server environment. The attendees
will have the opportunity to install and configure the product during hands-on
labs.
Audience
The course is designed for solution developers who are responsible for
designing and developing electronic workflow solutions. The course will foster
understanding of the concepts, features and benefits of K2.net 2003.
Prerequisites
Delegates should have one year or more of development experience including
design and implementation of solutions involving Microsoft .NET technologies.
They should have a good knowledge of:

Windows SharePoint Services and/or Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Module 00: Course Introduction
Formalities, including general introductions, course outline, courseware and
facilities, will be outlined. At the end of the module the student will have a
good idea of what will be covered in the course.
Module 01: Electronic Workflow Fundamentals
The module will introduce the student to various electronic workflow concepts
and definitions. The module will provide the student with the basic knowledge
and tools needed in order to implement a successful workflow project. The
student will understand that one of the most important steps in any workflow
project is proper planning.
Module 02: Introduction to K2.net 2003
The module will specifically address features, benefits and architecture of
K2.net 2003. The module will demonstrate the various K2.net 2003 components and
how they interact with each other. The module will also show various K2.net
2003 deployment scenarios.
Module 03: Basic Workflow design using K2.net 2003
The module will introduce the student to the K2.net 2003 Studio interface. The
basic building blocks used to build an electronic workflow process will be
discussed and demonstrated. After completing this module the student will be
able to build a basic workflow solution.
Module 04: The K2.net WorkSpace
The module will discuss the user interface for existing workflow processes,
called the K2.net 2003 WorkSpace. The various components and views of the
workspace, including reports and the Worklist will be discussed. The student
will also be shown how the interface can be customized.
Module 05: Intermediate Workflow design using K2.net 2003
In this module the student will learn how to build business rules into the
workflow process by utilizing the various tools provided in K2.net 2003 Studio.
On completion of this module the student will be able to incorporate business
rules into the workflow design by employing Activity and Line rules together
with the various event types.
Module 06: Managing servers and processes with the K2.net
2003 Service Manager
The student will learn how to use the K2.net 2003 service manager to manage K2
servers, security, users, groups, process versions, process instances and work
lists. The module will also discuss error handling and fixing.
Module 07: Developing against the K2.net 2003 Object Model
The student will learn how to programmatically interact with the K2 server by
utilizing the K2.net ROM object. The object model together with its various
methods and properties will be discussed. After completing this module the
student will know how to programmatically start new workflow processes and how
to interact and manipulate existing workflow process instances.
Module 08: InfoPath and SharePoint Portal Server 2003
Integration
Using a Microsoft InfoPath 2003 form to capture information and start a
workflow process will be discussed in this module. The student will learn how
to use the various process, activity and event templates in K2.net 2003 Studio
in order to provide an InfoPath integrated workflow solution. The module will
teach the student how a workflow process can be integrated with Microsoft
Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 by utilizing the various process and event
templates provided with K2.net 2003 Studio.
